Creating Moments:
Mayka Finkelstein Amrami, a London based artist and a fashion designer. Her prints and fashion installations has been exhibited in London and Europe and has been published in local and international magazines.
Having a fashion design background and having worked for the theatre and film industry for two decades has had an incredible influence on her work. Her love of the theatre and performing arts such as the classical ballet and contemporary dance inspired her concepts. She uses her previous and present knowledge and work experience, to create these concepts which eventually will be juxtaposed to textural prints, later can become garments, two dimensional pictures, paintings and even sculptures.
Mayka is preparing for her first big exhibition to be launched in 2011: 5 year retrospective on theatre and performing arts - series of photographs, illustrations and paintings/prints. |

Art inspires Make Up inspires Art:
"Makeup is one of the most stimulating elements in my work. There is a nurturing relationship between make up and art in my concepts. When creating the concept; I try to match the type of character and make up to the right makeup artist. Makeup artists are different and have different strengths and tendencies within the area of their expertise. I think when a person does what they love they would do it better so we work in full collaboration from the first stages of creating the concepts. Usually I work with a team of makeup artists, I'll bring references and we will brain storm the concept until we will find the right way of expression for it. When I finish the shooting stage I usually proceed to the illustration to create my imaginative figure/character.

The Narrative:
The people I work with are another stimulating element of the concept. Each one has a unique character and I try to let it manifest itself in the result. I like working with ballet dancers because apart from the fact they are beautiful they also understand how to create a certain character, they are performers, actors and very hard working people! There is always a discussion between us and I share my ideas, letting them get into the character adding their own interpretation. These photo shoots are an organic process, an artistic one and every person taking part has a place to contribute to it.

Fashion & Styling:
For the photoshoots of my concepts I create the garments the characters are going to wear. I usually prepare it especially for the photoshoot or I will take something I already have and customize it to my satisfaction. I have a stock of garments and fabrics to serve this purpose. I will create accessories as well to complete the look I'm after. As I create the prints for the fabrics, it will also have an influence on the concept.

The photographer I work with is another important element. He also will influence the photo shoot in its own unique way. I involve the photographer in the process as well, supplying him/her references and a lot of the times I will create a story board for the photo shoot. Obviously, in this case the style of the photographer has to be coordinated with the concept I'm working on.
